It turns out, the Cybertruck was just a cyberpunk warm-up act. Here comes Honda, with a wild new lineup of in-house developed EVs with a new name: the 0 Series. That's 0 as in zero.
You'd be forgiven for thinking these are just a small batch of vaporware concept cars, and that the vehicles we eventually get wearing the name 0 Saloon and 0 SUV will look a lot more like the Accords and Pilots that we're more familiar with. Here's the thing, that's not what's happening here. These designs are production intent. You see, Honda has a history or releasing "concept" cars that are very close to production ready. It turns out, these wedge-y science fiction fever dreams are no different, aside from a few small details. They're slated for production in Honda's new EV Hub in Ohio.
So, now that we know they're real... what exactly ARE they?
Well, they are EVs riding on a platform that Honda developed themselves, with the philosophy of "Thin, Light and Wise". Currently, Honda sells just one EV, the Prologue. That EV was co-developed with GM and rides on the same Ultium platform as the Chevy Equinox and Cadillac Lyriq. The Prologue has turned into quite a little success story, proving popular with Honda customers who are hungry for electric vehicles wearing an H badge. We at EV.Guide know well that when customers don't know much about EVs, their instinct is to turn to the brands they trust the most. There are few brands more trusted than Honda. Most customers aren't aware that the Prologue is more of a Chevy product than a Honda product. These new 0 Series are all Honda, all the way. Will that matter? Time will tell.
So what is Honda bringing to their EVs?
Well details are still slim, but both the 0 Saloon and 0 SUV are said to offer at least 300 miles of range. They will come with a NACS connector and will have access to Tesla's Supercharger network. They will have Level 3 autonomy features, allowing hands-free driving in limited areas. Honda says they are "striving" to become the first to offer eyes-off driving in all situations, but it certainly feels like they have a lot of catching up to do with the likes of Waymo, Tesla, etc. who have been publicly developing their autonomy for years, and are still limited in their own ways. It's likely that the Level 3 system offered may not arrive at launch, but will instead of rolled out and improved over time. These 0 Series were also shown off with advanced and dare we say dystopian AI assistance, something Honda is calling Asimo OS (named for their adorable soccer-playing robot, Asimo). The demo video for this technology showed drivers smiling along as their vehicle remembered the faces of their friends in the backseat. Cute? Friendly? Foreboding? All of it. It's impressive and a little unsettling, like it would fit right in to a Black Mirror episode.
Speaking of black mirrors, both 0 Series vehicles have a lot of them. The interiors are bathed in screens and soft ambient lighting, looking very futuristic but also quite feasible as a production vehicle. Two of the five screens that stretch across the dash are used for side mirrors, we suspect these may be abandoned for mirrors as camera-as-mirrors are not yet approved for American roads.
So when does this bold new Honda future arrive? Honda says early 2026 for the 0 SUV, and later 2026 for the 0 Saloon. No word yet on the pricing or additional performance specs like charge speed, but we'll keep you posted as we know more.
