Tesla continues to open its massive Supercharger network to other automakers, and today Volvo and Polestar join Rivian, Ford, and GM in being able to access the network across North America.
Vehicles that are currently equipped with CCS DC Fast charging will be able to use Tesla' network. That includes all Polestar vehicles as well as fully-electric Volvos including the EX90, EX40, and EC40 (formerly the XC40 Recharge). Volvo plug-in hybrids do not have DC Fast charging capability and cannot use Tesla Superchargers.
Adapters for Tesla's network will be provided free with all compatible 2025 Volvo models, or existing owners can purchase an approved NACS DC adapter for $230 through their Volvo dealer or Polestar Service Point. Adapters will begin shipping in mid-November.
It should be noted that non-Tesla vehicles will not have access to ALL Tesla Superchargers, since older Supercharger units use a different protocol that isn't compatible. So how can you identify if a specific Supercharger location will be compatible if you own a Volvo, Polestar, Rivian, Ford or GM model? Well you can use your favorite charging app to look at the charge speed of a specific Supercharger location. Tesla Superchargers with a charge speed capable of 250 kW are newer V3 units and will be compatible.
