Jeep has released a video teasing their 2025 Wagoneer S, the fully electric version of the Wagoneer which is a sharp (literally) departure from the internal combustion Wagoneer.
This new Wagoneer S is one of two fully electric vehicles that Jeep is scheduled to produce for 2025, with the other being the Jeep Recon, a boxy off-roader with removable roof and door panels similar to (but certainly not the same as) Wrangler.
News has been thin on these vehicles, but today we learned the Wagoneer S will offer a 3.4s 0-60 time, 600hp, 617 lb-ft of torque, and over 300 miles of range. Jeep reveals these stats while drag racing a Tesla Model Y Performance (which does 0-60 in 3.5s, has 455 hp and offers 285 miles of range). They also make the point that this Wagoneer S is faster than even their beastly Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, a V8 monster with a 0-60 time of 3.5s. Jeep also shows the Wagoneer flying through the dirt and opening a panoramic moonroof, perhaps two more digs at capabilities beyond the Model Y.
So it would appear Jeep is taking a shot at Tesla, while also showing the Jeep faithful this is the new king of the hill in the Jeep performance lineup. This Jeep certainly looks stylish, but what we don't yet know is the price... The Tesla Model Y Performance is a lot of car for the money at $57,490. Is Jeep signaling a similar price point? That would be a truly impressive feat for the brand's first fully electric to compete with Tesla on specs AND price. We've been expecting a starting price closer to $80,000 for this Wagoneer S, and that's Tesla Model X territory. For that price, the Model X will get to 60 mph nearly a full second faster (2.5s) and offer 325 miles of range with over 1,000 hp.
So which is Jeep's true rival, and was this video a fair fight? We'll have to wait to see what that the Wagoneer S' final price is.
