Kia Unveils Production EV3, A More Affordable Compact SUV

Kia joins the entry level, with an estimated starting price of $35,000.

Kia has shown us their production EV3, due for release in Korea this July. The EV3 will arrive in other markets later, and when it reaches us here in the U.S. it's expected to have a price around $35,000 and offer a range over 300 miles (though it's unclear if that range will be available at the entry price). This compact SUV will compete directly with the Chevy Equinox EV and (eventually) the Volvo EX30 at the entry-level to the EV market.

With a strong family resemblance to the larger EV9, this new EV3 will slot in below the EV6 and offer 2 battery options: A 58.3 kWh and larger 81.4 kWh. The car will use 400V architecture, which means it will not charge as quickly as its 800V siblings. Kia is estimating 31 minutes for 10-80% charge, which is firmly middle of the pack in terms of charge speed. It's still quick enough to be compelling at the expected price point.

The EV3 will be offered in FWD with a 202 hp motor and a 0-60 time of around 7.5 seconds. The top trim GT-Line performance model is expected to offer a dual motor AWD, though it's unclear if this model will be available at launch.

Kia is said to be offering an AI assistant in the EV3, powered by ChatGPT, and will have dual 12.3" displays for a thoroughly modern infotainment experience (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included).

Remaining details are slim, especially for North America as official prices, range, and performance specs have not been announced for our market. We'll keep you posted as we learn more.
