Maserati has unveiled the GranCabrio Folgore, a striking 4-seater convertible in a lovely shade of "Liquid Rose Gold". With 818 hp, 280 miles of range, and an estimated 0-60 time of 2.8s, feeling the wind in your hair will not be a problem. The GranCabrio joins the short but growing list of EV convertibles, but is a rare example of a drop-top with a back seat.
There's no doubt about paternity here, the GranCabrio Folgore is pure Maserati inside and out. Its proportions will appear very familiar to fans of the brand, and that's thanks in part to some clever battery placement. Maserati stuffed 92.5 kWh of capacity into this form factor, and did it with a "T" shape that places the battery between and behind the passengers. The result is a car that looks quite similar to Maserati's internal combustion offerings, certainly not a bad thing.
Maserati promises a peak charge rate of 270 kW thanks to its 800V architecture, which is all very satisfyingly modern and will recharge the rather large battery from 20% to 80% in about 18 minutes, presuming you've rolled up to an equally capable charging unit.
The GranCabrio debuted with a Titan Grey soft top, though five different colors will be available. They also showed off a two-tone denim and ice interior with contrasted stitching, a combo that Maserati calls a "jewel of the Fuoriserie customization program".
By 2025, Maserati will offer all of their models with an EV option, and expect to be a fully electric brand by 2028. The GranCabrio, GranTurismo and Grecale SUV will all wear the "Folgore" distinction as BEV models.
For now, we have no pricing on the GranCabrio Folgore. We're expecting it to be in the ballpark of the GranTurismo Folgore, around $200,000. That's a lot of dough, but Italian luxury rarely comes cheap.
