Taycan Turbo GT Is Porsche's New EV Track Monster

Taycan's new 1,000+ hp top spec is breaking records at Laguna Seca and Nurburgring

Porsche has just introduced a new top spec version of its Taycan, and it’s a performance monster. The Turbo GT has up to 1,092 hp, making it the most powerful series production Porsche ever produced. It’s also the first EV to come with Porsche’s Weissach package, a track-focused trim offered on Porsche's other GT cars.

This isn't some small performance upgrade. To give you a sense of how much performance Porsche has packed into this Turbo GT, it lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife a full TWENTY SIX seconds faster than Porsche’s previous record run with the Taycan Turbo S. The Turbo GT set a new record lap time for series production EVs at Laguna Seca and the Nurburgring.

All that performance comes from new rear axle motor, a more powerful pulse inverter, 157 lbs of weight savings, lightweight ceramic brakes and improved aerodynamics.

The Turbo GT takes just 2.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, or 2.1 seconds with the optional Weissach package. To get full power, you can use Launch Mode or the new Attack Mode, which is a 10-second boost opening up an extra 160 hp. That system is different from the Push to Pass feature on other Taycans, and works more like Porsche’s Formula E race cars - with boost indicated by a countdown timer in the instrument cluster and dynamically staged with animated rings on the speedometer.

All Taycan Turbo GT models come standard with carbon ceramic brakes, and design changes to the brake disc chamber shave more than four pounds. That reduces the unsprung weight and rotating mass, making this car even more nimble. Calipers in Victory Gold will help denote the Turbo GT from other Taycan models.

This Taycan has some aerodynamic upgrades as well, including adaptive spoilers, underbody air deflectors and diffusers. Porsche says it all adds up to 485 lbs of downforce. Carbon fiber on the mirrors and B-pillars signal this car's exclusivity, along with with two new colors: Pale Blue Metallic and Purple Sky Metallic. These colors will be offered on the Turbo GT only, for just one year.

The Taycan Turbo GT will start at $230,000, and start delivering to customers this summer.
